"I know it is not a mechanical filter but... it's even better! Takes out all the bad stuff and has no taste at all. A couple of small bottles the size of visine (part A & B) and you've got clean water in 10min."

"When you're on the right kind of trip, this product really shines: lightweight, ridiculously quick and easy to use, non-staining, and no nasty aftertaste! If the water's relatively decent and clean, Aqua Mira is tops.

On my most recent trip, however, I did notice one shortcoming: it can only do so much for water with "gunk" in it. If you're dealing with pond water, silty stuff, or snowmelt Aqua Mira can only do so much to improve it, even after you filter it through a bandana.

Bottom line: if you're on a trip with reliably decent water sources, leave the filter at home and take Aqua Mira."

"This product consists of two small (eyedrop-bottle size) plastic containers; you mix seven drops from each, let them steep together for five minutes and add to one liter of water. No odor, no taste. Much less weight and space than a filter and no waiting half an hour for iodine-flavored water. Aqua Mira is especially efficient for purifying a large container of water as, unlike a pump, it works just as quickly for thirty liters as for one - just takes more drops."

"I have used this product on many hikes in the Columbia River Gourge and Cascade Mountains. It has been easy to use and hassle free. For the price, it is a real bargain. I have only used it on clear water so, can't comment on how well it can handle water with suspended particles."

"I'm a microbiologist and I did some looking into the EPA registration on this product/chemicals (chlorine dioxide). Regular Clorox bleach has sodium hypochlorite (~5.25%) as its active ingredient. Both compounds are just as effective. You can look up the info on EPA's pesticide website. My advice is save your money and carry a leakproof container with some bleach (undiluted) and add 16 drops per gallon and let it stand for at least 10 min. This of course after you have already let your water stand & filtered through a carbon/0.2um type device.(I use the MSR miniworks pump)."

"Makes lots of clean water easily, quickly, without bad taste. It's been ~30 years since I treated water with bleach (as suggested by another reviewer), but I recall it tasted like bleach, whereas I've noticed no taste with the AquaMira. Only wish I'd discovered AquaMira before I invested in a !*@# nuisance, heavy, sweat-inducing, maintenance-laden filter. Only minor complaints are that one bottle is a lot harder to squeeze than the other (guess I need more work in the gym,) and it's hard to find in my local run-of-the-mill outdoor stores."
