"The shoes do not have a high heel and thus are easy to stand in all day without putting pressure on the front of the foot. I have inflammation of the toe and these shoes do not hurt it compared to my stealth boots which sends shooting pains whenever I walk over an uneven surface (the montrails cause no pains). The shoes are very easy to walk in. There is a rocker in the toe area but this is not overly done as in comparision to some other shoes that rock so much as to be unstable. I have a medium width and volume foot and the shoe fits about perfect with no tightness in the toe (I wear a size 13 in athletic shoes and it may be slightly long but my heel does not rub and I have decided not to get the 12 1/2 ... you don\'t want to get a shoe that is on the short side)."

"These boots are reasonably comfortable and have held up well. I have had some problems with heel blisters. They are extremely waterproof; I can literally walk through water with them."

"First Montrail I have purchased. Forded several creeks on a break in short hike. No leaks. Had to relace using Montrails suggestions to reduce heal slippage. A good boot so far. It takes a little while to break in but that was expected. Would recommend."

"I have worn these boots for over a year on numerous hikes and backpacks, usually on the AT in Tennessee/North Carolina area. In our mountainous area (uphills and downhills), these boots have done quite well. There was a break-in period of a few long hikes, but now the boots are quite comfortable and supportive with a forty-pound load. They are very waterproof, yet breathable with the Gore-Tex liner.

The only negative, and it isn't a serious problem, is that by day's end of a long mountain hike, you can experience some soreness in your feet due to rocks and roots. I think the cushioning underfoot could be a bit better, but overall, this is a quality midweight boot that should last a long time with good care."

"I have had these boots for almost 2 years. the break in period was short, just a couple of short hikes. these boots are great for medium to light backpacking and winter dayhiking. under heavy loads though the cushion is not enough. have worn these boots though all types or terrain and weather, with and with out snowshoes. the leather by the toe cap is starting to crack a little and teh liner inside the boots have torn on the heel, besides the sole they are good. i have low to mid volume feet so they fit great."

"A Substantial Backpacking/Hiking Boot - The Montrail Torre GTX’s are the first substantial backpacking/hiking boots I have purchased. Previously I have used a couple of different Hi-Tech models. I am more than satisfied as to the performance of the Montrail Torre GTX boot. After a brief break-in period, I wore these boots on a four-day backpacking trip into California’s Desolation Wilderness. My packed weight was 42 lbs. These boots kept my feet comfortable and dry. It’s the first time I didn’t feel the need to take off my boots as soon as I arrived at my destination. I tested the Gore-Tex by standing in water up to the fifth eyelet. These boots did not let in a drop of water. Hiking through the Desolation Wilderness subjects your boots and your feet to uneven terrain and jagged rocks. The Vibram soles insured my feet stayed comfortable and did well sticking to smooth rock surfaces. Another nice feature is the rubber protection around the toe box. If I had to find fault in these boots I would say the Nubuck is a little fragile, as I did gouge it on a rock. After cleaning and re-waterproofing with Nikwax, I believe they are going to be fine. If these boots are a good fit for you I highly recommend them."

"I have had put mine through 3 years of hell and I am very impressed with how well they've held up. My feet get really cold snowshoeing but perhaps I'm not choosing the right socks. Perfect for summer. Feet stay dry. The Vibram sole would not let me slide with a running start on top of frozen lake last week. Loose in the toe, tight in the heal... which I really like."
