Description
This trail is in a Research Natural Area. It was set aside in 1947 to study the effects of nature Vs. intensive land management. It climbs through old growth timber at a steady rate, but not steeply. It follows Twenty-Two creek almost the entire way with some great views of cascading water. Be sure to take the short trails that break off the main trail toward the creek. The views will be worth the effort! The destination is Lake Twenty-Two. A glacier carved basin and lake with a cirque that rises around the lake for a breath-taking view. There is no overnight camping or fires allowed in the Research Area. Plan to come early if you are visiting on the week-end. It can even be somewhat busy on a rainy October week-end.

Directions to Hike
Interstate 5, north of Seattle to Highway 2 East, then Highway 9 North to 92 East to the town of Granite Falls. At the end of town make a left onto Mountain loop highway and proceed to the Verlot Public Service Center. About two miles past Verlot you will see a sign on the right side of the highway marking the trailhead.
