Description
IF YOU GO TO OLYMPIC PARK YOU MUST DO THIS HIKE. You can go either direction you want but it really doesn't matter. The hike through the woods is all on a boardwalk and you can move really quickly over those three miles to the beach. The beach in this part of the park is about as wild as it gets. It isn't as broad as some of the southern beaches either. And about the only thing that was unpleasant was the copious amount of seaweed that had washed up on the beach. It was inundated with sand flies and smelled pretty bad. Fortunately sand flies don't like people. So no real problems.

Now the beach walking can wear you down. The sand is loose and you'll do a lot of slipping. I recommend a pair of gaiters to keep the sand out of your shoes.

Another point for photographers. If you do this hike in the middle of the day you aren't going to get any really good photos. The sun's just too bright. I would recommend you leave the heavy camera gear behind and maybe bring the video cam instead. This was my only "mistake" on this trip.

Bring a lunch and enjoy what is probably one of the coolest hikes I've ever been on. The three mile coastal walk is truly spectacular and thrilling. I saw a huge sea lion and you may even see whales off shore in the right season. This is one that you will never forget and will probably want to do again.

Directions to Hike
From Port Angeles go to Sappho. North to Clallam Bay then nwest to Sekiu. Follow the signs. Turn onto Hoko Ozette road for 20 curvy miles. Ranger station at the end.
