Description
The trail makes a great day hike to the summit of Mt Ascutney from the north side of the mountain. It begins with a steep ascent to an old quarry road and follows the old road bed for approximately 1 mile to an old (green) granite quarry dating back to the early 1900s. After another steep ascent around the quarry, there is a nice lookout at the top at about 1.2 miles. The trail then ascends steadily through a scenic spruce forest to Knee Lookout (2.0 miles), the North Peak Lookout (2.4 miles), Brownsville Rock (3.0 miles) and the summit observation tower (3.2 miles) where there are scenic views of the Connecticut River Valley and the mountains of New Hampshire and Vermont.

Directions to Hike
The trail head parking area is located off VT Route# 44 in Windsor, Vermont. From Ascutney State Park Campground, go 1.8 miles north on Route# 44A to its junction with Vermont Route# 44. Turn West on Route 44 and travel 1 mile to the trail head.

Contact Information
The trail and the trail head parking area is part of Ascutney State Park managed by the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation.
For more information call the District Trail Coordinator in Springfield, Vermont at 802-886-2215.
