Description
take burrows trail out of huntington parking lot. trail steadily rises under dense hardwood forests to alpine garden at top of Camel's hump. Beautiful panoramic views of lake champlain to th west, mount mansfield to north, sugarbush, and mad river glen to south. Continue southdescending down the Long Trail into huntington gorge. Skip part of long trail by using allyns trail for .3 miles. begin climb to peak of Mt. Eathan Allen. It is a deceptive peak that hides and offers little views, save for an eastern shot. this part of the trail is outstanding, as it is little used, and offers moderately technical walking; lots of up and down, as you pass mount ira allen. if there are no leaves on trees you will be able to see Burnt rock. Hooray! Pure New England up and down, as you descend onto the western side of the green mountains. You will cross an interestingly cracked rock before you begin relatively-long easy ascent to Burnt Rock. Outstanding views all around. A popular spot for locals and tourists alike, but not the crowds of Mansfield or Chicorua (sp) NH. Nice funky descent to parking lot at Big Basin. where, if you're lucky enough to have a great wife, or parnter, she parked your car there for you, and left a little coolah and a beah for ya.

Hands down an exhausting day.

Directions to Hike
Parking lot at burrows trail is in huntington center take rte 17 east from lake champlain area towns, or 17 west from warren vt. to right into huntington center follow little signs take right onto dirt road. pay close attention to little signs. Did I say that already, well, I meant it. you will see a trail head parking lot on right. Go past that. keep going till the road stops. that is burrows trail head.
Big basin parking lot--- take route 100 to north Fayston road. follow to end go straight through ntersection to big basin parking lot. trail head is right there at lot. do not go through gate onto private property.. it's private, that's why.
