Description
A slightly difficult but beauitiful & short hike with some rough, steep parts of trail. The trail descends through the Rose River Trail approx. 1.4 miles to the Rose River Falls, then acsends the lower Dark Hollow to the Dark Hollow Falls and exits at Skyline Drive.

Water parallels the trail almost all the way and there are numerous falls, pools, and cascades.

About halfway through the hike, an excellent campsite near water provides the opportunity for an overnight.

An extraordinary trail filled with the beauty of water, old homesteads, an old copper mine, summer wildflowers, and much more.

Directions to Hike
I suggest you enter the Shenandoah National Park near Swift Run Gap via Hwy 33 from Stanardsville or Elkton, VA.

Park at Fishers Gap overlook (mile 49.4). Walk across the Drive and you will see the fire road, which will lead you to the Rose River Falls trail on your left after 100 feet. About .6 mile after the start, the horse trail leads off to the left, follow the trail go straight ahead.

After another .4 mile, the trail turns sharply right and the Rose River joins you about 100 yards further. About another .3 of a mile and you can sit on the rocks and look at the falls.

Not far ahead, on your left the water turns away from the trail and a stretch of land provides an excellent camping area. If you wish to do an overnight, this is the place.

Continue down the trail, noting a steep, rock covered trail ascending to your right. This leads to the old copper mine. shortly after this, you cross the Hogcamp Branch and turn right. .9 of a mile further, you will reach the fire road.

Turn right and cross the bridge, then turn left on the trail after about 30 yards.Follow the Dark Hollow trail for another .7 of a mile to Skyline Drive.
