Description
This is a beautiful hike that is located in the pristine High Uintas Wilderness Area. The hike starts off pretty strenuous, as there is about a 1500 ft. elevation gain in the first two miles. The views you get once you are past the switchbacks are amazing. Especially as you are hiking along the Bald Mountain Ridge. There is excellent fishing for trout in the Red Castle Lakes, with most of the fish I caught being at Red Castle Lake. There are a few good camping spots by Lower Red Castle Lake with excellent views of Red Castle Peak. Don't try camping by Red Castle or Upper Red Castle as there are way too many rocks and cliffs. Upper Red Castle, though about a two mile hike from Lower Red Castle, is worth the extra time, even though there are no fish in that lake. The return hike is much easier than the inbound hike with only a 700 ft elevation gain before going downhill the rest of the way.

Directions to Hike
(From Salt Lake City) I-80 East to exit 39 and go south on 414. Continue on 414(turns into 410) to Mountain View. Follow 410 to Robertson. Continue on 410 past Robertson to south on 279. Follow 279 all the way into the Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Take a left at Gilbert Meadows (073) and continue until Elizabeth Mountain (058)and turn left. At the fork in the road, turn left onto East Fork of Black's Fork (065). This will take you to the campground where there is parking for the trailhead. It is best to get a High Uintas topographical map with roads on it and ask locals. There will be signs sparsly placed along the road for East Fork Black's Fork campground.
