Description
Marufo Vega trail provides a wonderful scenic view of the Rio Grande River in the eastern section of Big Bend NP. From the trailhead near Boquillas Overlook, follow the level trail beside an old ore tramway to the junction with Strawhouse trail; go right. The trail crosses another junction with Strawhouse later on. The key is to stay right. The loop begins here, and climbs about 1000ft. on the way to the river. Watch for rock cairns, as the trail is often obscure. No water is available on any trails in this part of the park, and the trail is unshaded. Summertime temps can be as high at 115 degrees. Winter is best, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 20s. Get a USGS 7.5 quad for this hike; the commercially available topos contain errors in this portion of the park.

Directions to Hike
From San Antonio, TX, take US 90 west through Del Rio and Sanderson. At Marathon, turn south on 385 for a 1-hr drive into the park.
