The trail starts at the Leatherwood Ford trailhead. Walk across the old mining bridge and take a right after crossing the river. The next 3 miles of the trail runs right along the River providing some beautiful scenery and fishing. As you cross the Fall Branch and climb a small number of steps the trail veers left and continues up and up by way of switchbacks. This is the most difficult part of the hike, but well worth the climb. As you reach the base of a bluff follow the trail to the left and you should pass under a small rockhouse and walk through a small gorge. As you reach the loop there should be a sign directing you either way for the loop and to the right for the angel falls overlook. The loop itself is 6.8 miles long but very flat as you walk on top of the ridge. The loop provides many small overlooks and the Angel Falls Overlook, (one of the most beautiful overlooks in the Big South Fork.)The Angel Falls Overlook trail is 3 miles long and the loop is 6.8 making a round trip of 12.8 miles
