We parked at the boat ramp to Travis McNatt Lake. At the bottom of boat ramp we took the Dry Ridge trail North around the lake. Hiking only trails are marked by white paint. Continued on DRT South past the first shelter, Grassy Point Shelter, which sits east of the lake. DRT follows the lake then heads NW to meet up with the Horse Trail. Approximately 2.25 miles We headed South on the HT to the "Y" in the trail. Approximately .5 miles Go East-South-East up towards the Observation Tower. Approximately .25 miles This Tower is at the highest point of the park, about 573 ft above sea level and is 73 ft tall. East past the tower is the Tuscumbia Trail. Approximately 100 yards. The TT from the tower is down hill heading East. Across a small stream the Tuscumbia Shelter is on the left about 150 yards off the trail. We camped here. Several different fire circles with nice grassy areas to throw a tent up and plenty of fire wood. The stream we crossed along the trail has great water after we filtered it. Approximately .75 miles The next day we back tracked to the Observation Tower. From here we took the alternative route down and around the tower to the Dismal Swamp boardwalk. Approximately .75 miles Across the swamp on the boardwalk to the Azaela Spring Day Loop Trail. Approximately 1 miles We headed South-East on the ASDLT with the swamp on the right. To the railroad tracks on the South end of the ASDLT and headed East, across the tracks. Up along the ridge just south of the railroad tracks and back across the tracks, heading North on the ASDLT. This leads to the dirt road and to the Big Hill Pond Trail. Approximately 2.5 miles On the BHPT we went North on the east side of Travis McNatt lake. To the Big Hill Pond Access Trail. Approximately 1.5 miles The BHPAT headed North to a boardwalk across the lake to the Fox Hallow Trail. Approximately .5 miles On the FHT we went East to meet back at the boat ramp. Approximately .25 miles
