Description
The Ace Gap trail in the northwest section of GSMNP was on this day nearly deserted,I met one party of four (2 dads and 2 sons). You can almost believe the wilderness will envelop you then BAM like a poke in the eye there is a large "showy" house about 50 feet from the trail. Ace Gap runs the boundary of the park in these parts and someone decided it would be a good idea to build right up on the edge of the trail. I must admit I was a little dismayed and slightly jealous, wondering if the owners even cared. P.S. I have herad it is the Gov's house??

As for the trail it is well graded, gently rolling with an ever so slight elevation loss towards the gap.

Directions to Hike
From Cades Cove, in the northwestern section of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, drive up Rich Mountain Road to its end at the park boundary. Rich Mountain Road can be reached via the Cades Cove Loop Road. There is a small parking area at the trail head.
