Description
This Trail takes you to the top of Short Mountain at Robert S. Kerr Lake. From the trail head its a steep climb up the mountain. There are not a whole lot of switch backs its pretty much straight up. It is not that difficult though. A little ways up to the left of the trail is a very deep drop off surrounded by tall rock cliffs. The trail does get close to the edge at one point and the footing can be loose. It is a nice view. The trail starts to head off to the right a little further up. After a bit I no longer could find the trail markers on the trees and the trail was hard to follow because of growth. This is why it helps to get a map. Not having a map and having lost the trail I bushwacked my way to the top. Once your on top you have a great view of Kerr lake. I was suprised at what else I found. A very deep canyon surrounded by tall cliffs. I hung out on top for a while with the Vultures flying right over my head.I found a place safe enough to get to the bottom and carefully went on down. Its a whole different view from the bottom up. After exploring the canyon and the top of the mountain I carefully climed my way down the steep rocky mountainside to the bottom promising myself next time I'll get the map.

Directions to Hike
Short Mountain is located on Robert S. Kerr Lake south of Sallisaw off US-59. The Trail Head is located at the Dam off of US-59 on the south side. Park at the dam and walk on up towards the lake. When you get on top follow the rocks to the right to the mountain. There is a dirt lot at the base and the trail starts in the the trees to the left across two railroad ties for a bridge.
