Description
This well-marked trail is officially named The Backpack Trail. It is seldom crowded. Almost the entire trail is under a canopy of oak and hickory trees. There are two designated over-night camping areas. Water must be carried although there is a huge lake always within a short hike--of course all water in the park should be thoroughly treated before using. As the hike is moderate to easy in difficulty, carrying water is not too much of a burden. Deer, rabbits, raccoon, and numerous birds are often encountered. Registration is required (free) at the Park Office at the South Trailhead parking area. The park also contains a more difficult 32 mile trail called the Steve Newman World-Walker Perimeter Trail. Hikers can register at the same location. This trail has four overnight designated areas and does allow horseback riders. Both trails are part of the Buckeye Trail and North country Trail systems.

Directions to Hike
From Interstate Hwy. 275 take exit 65 East. State Route 125 will take you about five miles to the well marked entrance.
