7.2 mile dayhike. This trail is excellent as an elevation trainer to see if you are ready for the loop and develope your pace/ schedule for the 40 miler nearby. i did it in august in the heat but i didnt carry my normal load as i was unsure of my ability. I wish I had crried the usual as with my lightened load I was able to maintain 2.5+ mph. Thats not stopping to "smell the roses" however. There were several vehicles around but most for the two nearby beaches, as I only saw 2 other people on the trail. They were on the camp 3 to trailhead march which shares this route for 1/3 the distance. One can acquire maps at the trailhead, or on ODNR's website. It would be easy to manipulate this hike into an over-nighter by parking at the trailhead hiking 5.3 miles to camp 3 and going ccw through the day hike and back to the trailhead.

Directions to Hike
take us 23 south from points north of columbus then sr 52 west out of Portsmouth to sr 125 north. Goto the main trailhead first( to get your map if necessary) which is the left turn immediately after pssing the second lake.
