Description
This is a amazing hike. Lake Colden is a amazing yet over hiked place. It is in the heart of the Adirondack park and is a great camping spot for backpackers that want to hike many montians.
If you want to climb any of the 46 high peaks most can be hiked from this area if you are up to it. One of the rewarding parts on the hike to lake colden is Avalanche pass. Sheer rock wall rise up on each side of the lake. This is the most popular route to lake colden but can be very rough in spots. allow yourself time so you can take your time.
Once you are at lake colden beware of bears. They are generaly not hostal toward people but are very brave. The bears at lake colden know how to take down a food hang and the only sure way to stop them is with a bear canaster.
Over all lake colden is a great camp spot dispite the overabondances of humans. Please do not camp at this spot and do not know what you are doing. Forest Rangers may ticket you if you break any laws such as improper storage of food.

Directions to Hike
On State Route 73, 4 miles SE of the Village of Lake Placid or 16 miles NW of the Village of Keene Valley. Turn off Route 73 south at junction marked "Trails to The High Peaks" and "Adirondak Loj". A registration booth is reached at 4.8 miles. Small fee for trailhead parking.
