Description
Once the Appalachian Trail crosses into NJ at the water gap it enters Worthing State Forest and heads ne towards Sunfish Pond. Sunfish Pond is a glacial lake on top of kittany ridge. They're is a very remote trail that circles the pond allowing for different views of the lake. There are many trails leading up to the App. varying in difficulty. You can head up Fairview (yellow) which has a 500 ft gain in 1.3 mi. The Douglas Trail (blue circle in white square) with a 900 ft gain in 2.5 miles. The Turquoise Trail (follows a stream up to sunfish pond) with a 900 ft gain in 1 mile. I wouldn't recommend takin this route with a fully loaded pack, however it is very beautiful with lots of waterfalls. You can also take the Garvey Springs Trail (red) with a 950 ft gain in approx 1.5+ mi. Garvey Springs puts you just east of sunfish pond.
Once at the App. you can take two different trails south,(Hollysprings, which is a continuation of Fairview)(and Dunnfield creek tail, right b4 sunfish pond) to dunnfield creek. There a number of very nice trails with varying difficulty throughout Worthington State Forest, most intersecting with the App. so you can plan some very nice loops for an extended stay in the park. Once on the App. you can camp anywhere within, i think, 50 ft of the trail. No charge for camping on the mountain, and no entrance fees. I believe this is one of the nicest places in NJ.
Just email me if you have any questions or want a recommended loop.

Directions to Hike
take rt 80 to the last exit before toll bridge into penn. and continue on the old mine road into the park. they're are parking lots near Fairview trail head (1st) and Douglas trail.
