Description
a fairly strenous trail. wonderfully maintained. this trail is located in the south mountains state park. hike to jacob fork overlook for a spectacular view of the beginnings of the southern appalachians as well as high shoals falls. then hike on to the chestnut knob overlook. another breathtaking view. this rocky outcropping is alive with ancient knarly pines. on a clear day you can see the city of charlotte about 50 miles away. this park contains miles and miles of multi-use trails and is one of the less frequented parks in the state. plenty of camping sites that are as far away as 5 miles from the trailhead.

Directions to Hike
from charlotte travel south on I-85 to 321. travel 321 north until you get to highway 27. take a left at the light onto 27 and travel through the town of lincoln until you come to highway 18. make a right at the flashing light onto 18 and start to look for the park signs in about a mile or so. the drive is about 48 miles from charlotte and takes about an hour due to majority of travel being on single lane country roads.
