Description
starting at the gregory ridge trail, you meander along forge creek as it rises from it's headwaters, the trail gets steadily steeper, climbing for about 4-4.5 mi.to the top. on top is one of the best views in the smoky mountains, a 360 deg view, where sunsets and sunrises are the highlights of an already spectactular place.
the campsite is on the other side at sheeppen gap, or #13. you can also hike up this side of gregory's bald, by taking a primitive road just right off of forge creek road on the way to gregory's ridge trail, this is a bit shorter, though still an uninspiring uphill battle with gravity, with it's best advantage being that you arrive at camp, rest, unload, set-up camp, eat , hike to the top, enjoy sunset, in morning repeat, enjoy sunrise, w,hot drink of choice.

Directions to Hike
enter smoky mountain nat'l park at cades cove, proceed to the visitor's center, to get your permit. take a right out of the parking lot, onto forge creek road, trailhead for gregory ridge trail dead-ends at end of road, the prmitive road is on the right just before the trailhead, continue till the road crosses the trail, hike up left side of trail, to camp#13, this is a one-way road and continues on to 129. robbinsville is to the south, maryville to the north.
from 129 east/west is eric rudolph country, so be careful.....
