Description
The first listed road directions were incorrect. i agree with the 3rd writer who suggested day hikes in this area rather than backpacks. There are now as of Sept 08 ninety six trails listed for Linville Gorge on www.linvillegorge.net. This is far more than the trails shown on the Official USFS map or on any topo you currently available.

Directions to Hike
I-40 to Marion. Take US 221 to NC 183. Turn right. This puts you near the north west end of the gorge. You can pick more detailed directions from the website above.

Contact Information
Info Cabin on kistler can tell you nothing more than you can get from the back of the USFS Map. The very pleasant oldtimers here are not familiar with the trail network of the gorge. The District Rangers office is not much better 828-652-2144 but they can give road closings.
