Description
Spectacular views abound on this mostly vertical hike. Highlights include winding steps through an arch rock, the alum cave bluffs at 2.2 miles from the trailhead, and the overall views from the trail as it passes through old growth forest and the Anakeesta formation. A more comprehensive description can be found in"Hiking Trails of the Smokies" 1994

Directions to Hike
To parking lot and trailhead: Drive 8.6 miles on Newfound Gap Road from Sugarlands Visitor Center. There is a sign and several large parking areas marking the trailhead.
