Description
Absolutely spectacular!!! My favorite day-hike in the lower 48 so far.

It's a three mile hike and the grade is fairly easy (not too steep). The lake is fabulous and surrounded by 200 foot walls and waterfalls on all sides... just gorgeous. The hike is fairly easy... done in a few hours round trip (if you didn't stop to gawk at the gorgeous view).

It's in Glacier Park, so you'll have to pay an admittance fee, but it's worth every penny.

It's a popular trail so expect crowds. I would suggest hitting it in the Fall after the summer rush is over and the bugs have left. But it's also beautiful first thing in the spring when the snow is melting and Avalance Gorge is roaring.

Directions to Hike
From West Glacier, take Going-To-The-Sun road through Glacier Park past Lake McDonald. After you've passed Lake McDonald you'll go about four more miles and you'll see signs for the Avalance Lake trail and the Trail of Cedars off to your right. Parking is tight because it's a popular trail.
