Description
The Clear Springs Nature Trail is a short, but unique trail. Immediately after setting out from the trailhead you find yourself on a long boardwalk that takes you out into the middle of a small springfed swamp. You can see geese, ducks, wood ducks, snakes, frogs, turtles, beaver, woodpeckers, and fish. There are benches and trash cans on the boardwalk making it a good place for a picnic among the towering cypress trees. It would also be a good place to bring a friend who is wheelchair bound. The walk turns back toward the road, crosses it, and goes up a bluff where it goes up and down for a while before coming back down a staircase to the road. At the base of the stairs is the spring that feeds the swamp and is the trails namesake. Then you cross the road back to the trailhead. You may also want to check out the nearby Sandstone Fitness Trail and the small trail at Kyle State Park.

Directions to Hike
Take Highway 315 from Sardis toward Sardis Dam. After passing the boundary for the dam there will be a gravel road to the right. If you cross the bridge that goes over the old river channel/emergency spillway outlet you have gone too far. Follow the gravel road for about one mile. The trailhead will be on the left. You’ll also pass where the trail crosses the road right before you come to the trailhead.
