Description
One of the best trails I've been on yet (not saying much). The trail was very well marked, with very little debris blocking the trail. Be sure to keep plenty of water because you ascend most of the time going west and streams are few. Elevation ranged from 700 to 1400ft. The views atop the mountains are awesome. We backpacked for about 9 miles in late January (rather cold and windy). Probably could have finished entire trail with better weather conditions. We hiked in one day and hiked out the next; made for a nice weekend backpacking trip.

Directions to Hike
From St. Louis:
Johnson's Shut-Ins State Park is approximately 130 miles from St. Louis (South County); the trip will take about two or two and one-half hours depending on traffic. Take I-270 south to I-55 south. When you get to the Festus area take U.S. Hwy. 67 south to Farmington. At the second Farmington exit, turn right onto Route W toward Doe Run. Travel 17 miles on Route W. At the flashing red light, turn right/north onto Hwy. 21. Travel about one-half mile and turn left onto Route N. Go 13 miles on Route N to the park entrance on your left.
