Description
This is a nice walk but it can be very confusing. The trail goes from Pickney Recreation area and the Potowotomi rail through Wastenaw County and then to Waterloo Recreation area which is just east of Jackson Michigan.

I started at the Pickney Rec area and walked west. The first camp site is Blind Lake in Pickney. That is way too short a walk so plan on staying at Green Lake which is a good walk.

From Green Lake you need to walk all the way to Portage Lake in the Waterloo Campground and here is where it gets hairy. West of the Gerald Eddy Geology Center you have to skirt a gravel pit area that has really toasted the area. There will be roads and trails that are badly marked and do not show up on your maps correctly. Expect a long hard walk and to use your map and compass quite a lot. Take the time to make it to sack ridder hill and if you end up detouring around on roads looking for the trail don't worry. Just keep working your way west and pick the trail back up. You can do it. This portion is a long hard walk and not for the faint of heart.

Expect to find some ruins along the trail. A couple of fire places still standing including a cobble stone one on the Potowotomi.

Watch out for the mountain bikers. Some of them are a little reckless although I have seen bikers wreck rather than run into people.

The trail is scattered with those stupid pedal reflectors and water bottles that fall out of the bike bottle holders. I have yet to see a mountain biker stop to pack out trash.
