Description
The third highest peak in Maine (4180 feet). Offers several different ways to summit. The Old Speck summit trail off of route 26 is a 4 mile trail that is of moderate difficulty. A total elevation gain of 2700 feet can make the trail difficult at times. The rewards pay of at the top were an observation tower allows for 360 degree panoramic views of the Maine and New Hampshire country side. A great hike with a great view at the top.

Directions to Hike
From Portland: to route 302 west towadrs Lake Sebago and Casco, Maine. Follow 302 all the way to Freyburg, Maine which is on the border of Maine and New Hampshire. In Freyburg take route 5 North to Newry. You will pass through Lovell, Lynchville, and Bethel. At Newry take route 26 North. The Old Speck Mountain trail is off of route 26 and about 10 miles from Newry. This is a beautiful drive throught the Maine country side and even parts of the White Mountain National Park.
