Description
This was my first hike. My son and I trekked the 16 mile trail in 6 1/2 hours. The loop is somewhat technical the first 8 - 10 miles. But then became simpler the last 6 mi. I really enjoy the hike. Well marked. Lightly traveled. Camping and picnic area at the 1/2 way point. We saw plenty of wild life and some neat plants. No problems to report.

Stop by the park office prior to your hike for maps and literature. This added to our experience. The staff was very friendly.

Directions to Hike
Take US Rt 51 S. of Carbondale, IL about 12 miles. Follow the signs to Giant City State Park.
