Description
Located in Hitchcock Nature Area there is a series of trails that amount to approx. 10 miles. These trails are located in the Loess Hills following the Missouri river. The highest elevation is around 1300 ft. You can get a great view of the river valley by taking the west ridge trail. There are two hike in campsites, one on West ridge and the other on Badger ridge. I work as an Intern at the park and supprisingly the park does not get much traffic. You can hike through Oak forest and prarie, it is beautiful year round. There is no water source on the trail, so bring lots of water!

Directions to Hike
From Council Bluffs, IA: drive north out of the city on Hwy 183 about 11 miles, the park is located 5 miles north of Cresent, IA. The sign for Hitchcock Nature Area is easily found. There is a $2 entrance fee and and all-access trail boardwalk.
