Description
A wonderful overnighter-type backpacking trail provides a great introduction to the Waianae Mountain wilderness. Views of colorful Makua Valley, an ancient Hawaiian habitat for the first Polynesian settlers of Oahu, are constant.
The trail is graded along the ridgeline and proceeds in and out stretches of pine forest. The final destination can either be the campsite along Mokuleia Trail (wonderful sunset vistas) or Peacock Flats (peaceful, swaying forest campsite).

Directions to Hike
After securing your camping permit from the State of Hawaii DLNR, proceed westbound on the H1 highway all the way toward the leeward coast. H1 will eventually turn into Farrington Hwy between Kapolei and Nanakuli.
Continue along the leeward coast, now northbound, until you reach the end of Farrington Hwy (past Waianae and Makaha). You will see a military guardshack on the right side with the U.S. Air Force sign denoting "Kaena Point Satellite Tracking Station". Turn right and contact the guard at duty - he/she will direct you up the access road to the actual trailhead (which is at the top of the ridge ahead).
