Description
Nice hike from Amicalola State Park north of Dawsonville. My wife and I are below beginner, and this wasn't a bad hike. It begins with the AT approach trail and branches off around mile 2. The Len Foote Hike Inn was worth the walk and the price. You can continue on past and meet up with the approach trail, or go back the way you came. The weather was just right, so that at the three mile marker, you could look south and see the top of the Atlanta skyline, which we were told was rare.

They also have about 20 miles of trails around the inn, so it might be worth a couple of nights and use the inn as a base camp.

Directions to Hike
From Atlanta, take GA 400 North to Dawsonville, follow the signs to Dawsonville, then to Ellijay. About 10 miles north of town, there will be a sign to ellijay (~20 miles) and Dahlonaga (~15 miles), follow the sign to Dahlonaga and the Amicalola State Park will be a couple of miles on your left.
