Description
The Mt. Manuel trail is NOT recommended. Not only is this trail is featureless and baron, it's narrow and not well maintained. The average hiker (i.e. Me) will find the trail, too tough and not enjoyable - of course this is all compounded by the lack of scenery. Avoid. We (my wife and I) perservered and made it to the peak and was rather disappointed considering the effort we put in. If you are silly enough to ignore my opinion, then take at least 2.5liters of water per person.

Directions to Hike
In Big Sur. From San Francisco, take 101 S, 156 W, 1 S. This place is south of Monterey/Carmel. Take the exit to Big Sur State Park. To get to Mt. Manuel Trail, you need to take the Oak Grove Trail first. This intersects with the Mt. Manuel Trail. Good luck and seriously consider going to the beautiful beach instead.
