Description
Beginning at the Shackleford Trailhead, a short 6 mile hike through trees and wildflowers brings you to Summit lake, a typical shallow alpine lake. Campbell lake, a shorter but steeper hike will provide better fishing and views. The next day, a fairly long and somewhat challenging 10 + mile hike along portions of the Pacific crest trail and past several stunning views, will bring you to Spirit Lake. Along the way is the Marble Wall, a wonderful formation which dominates the area and will be visible again 35 miles further on from the back side. Spirit- great fishing and a fine swimming lake. Another day of great Marble and granite formations 12 miles to Ukonom Lake. Great! 4 miles to Onemile lake and out the next day, or stay over at the peaceful Halfmoon meadows. Take an extra day at either Ukonom or Onemile lake. Teenagers can do this hike if prepared. This hike would be tougher going the other way. A special treat on the way out is a burger at Cinnabar Sams in Willow Creek off Hwy 96

Directions to Hike
From Redding, CA, take 299 W to Weaverville and go north to the town of Etna. Take road 43n21 to the Shackleford Trailhead
