Description
The beginning of the trail is slightly confusing-follow the Oak Trail to the fork, which has a large wooden sign. In spite of the poor review given before this one, the hike was quite enjoyable. The trail has been recently maintained (some time this year), and it is in fairly good shape. There were wonderful plants along the way, including Yuccas, lots of sage, giant Coreopsis, sycamore trees, bay trees, and others. I saw some California Condors soaring high above on my way up the mountain, as well as Scrub Jays, California and Mountain Quail, hawks and sparrows. The view of the mountains behind Mt. Manuel is wonderful, as is the broad view of the Pacific Ocean. Bring lots of water, and plan for at least 6 hours to hike the trail.

Directions to Hike
Go to Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park on Highway 1, and drive back to where the picnic signs point. There will eventually be trailhead parking signs.
