"Standard shelter design sleeping 8. Numerous tent sites around shelter and by a bend in the creek just north of turn-off. Water from creek to left. Privy behind shelter."

"I am a volunteer trail maintainer and was recently assigned to help maintain the 10-mile portion of the AT (SR 623 to SR 615) in which Jenkins Shelter is at the midway point. I saw the shelter yesterday (3.3.07) for the first time. It's a great shelter in a wonderful location. The three-sided shelter is clean and has a picnic table in front, along with a campfire area and metal frame for placing pots for cooking. Ample water (a wide, swift-flowing stream) is about 200 yards away. I had lunch there and found the whole area very restful. You will probably not run into much leisure foot traffic, as the shelter is in a remote valley and off the beaten track."
