"This product is a water treatment, not a water filter. Seven drops per liter of A and B (in separate plastic bottles) per liter removes bacteria and amoebae in about ten minutes. The two best applications: ultralightweight hikers (it obviously weighs less than a filter and takes up less space) and base camp or other high volume needs (works just as fast with a large amount as a small amount, so it's must faster than filtering for decontaminating a large container-full of water). No taste that I could discern. "

"Finally, a lightweight alternative to iodine. Not quite as simple as tossing a tablet into your Nalgene, but pretty close. Measure out drops from bottle A, add drops from bottle B, wait a few minutes for the mixture to activate, and then dump it into your bottle or bladder. Water treated with Aquamira doesn't have any real aftertaste, and the treatment doesn't add any coloring, either.

It takes less effort than filtering, too. However, it can't do anything to improve the taste of water that's already vile. It kills the cooties that can make you sick, but doesn't improve the taste of pond water or snowmelt.

"In response to Augiedoggie, you should try to think before speaking. I hope you wrote that after the first time you used it? You can mix the part A & B in anything small. I used my titanium spork once. I bought two sets and took both mixing caps w/ me to I can mix two batches at the same time. If aren't sure what to use to treat your water, just ask any Appalachian Trail or Pacific Crest Trail through hiker and 9 out of 10 will say Aqua Mira because I sure do.

"I don't have a water filter, intentionally choosing instead to save the weight and carry water treatments. This normally meant iodine, but I began to dread the taste it left in the water. Aqua Mira makes the water taste like the stuff you pay for! Problem: it only treats 1 qt. at a time. Sure, you can mix multiple amounts to treat multiple quarts, but the problem comes when you try to figure our how much of the mixture goes into each bottle -- they don't have a way to make sure that if you mix multiple amounts, you get the right amount into each bottle. Seems like an easy problem to fix, but I've emailed them several times and have yet to get any response. They don't seem to care. Bottom line: they have a great product."
